I've never been to mt Shasta before, but let me just say, Wayside Grill was a great introduction to the area. The food was AMAZING. I had the juiciest fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs I have ever tried in my life. The lobster bisque was so delicious, we had to buy 3 packets of the mix they use to make it - which was also made and packed in house. If this does not convince you, let their fantastic service win you over. Their servers were very accommodating and the food was served promptly. It's needless to say we will be back for more, and recommend everyone who happens to be passing the area (or make an effort to come for this) to eat here. Easily deserving of 5 stars.

Food was good. Server was great. Price was good. Limited menu although most will find something to eat.

Great smiling and friendly staff and owners. Felt right at home. Wide variety of food - fish and chips, ahi seared perfectly, steak, burgers, fish tacos! I'll be back over and over. Sit back and Enjoy!

I don't get why so many people are stoked on this place. They have sort of a typical American menu - think local family steak house meets Chili's -'cause they want to add a little flair. The menu isn't very inventive and the food definitely has a strong Sysco-vibe. We had a very nice server at our last visit. It was very busy, but she kept her eye on us and was very friendly. We ended up ordering the fish/veggie tacos without the fish, as we're vegetarian and there aren't many options (pasta and veggie burgers). The tacos were served with half of a veggie burger patty in each one. It was a nice gesture, but um, not that delicious. It was like something I would have made in 1992 when I came home late from a party and still thought Gardenburgers were the shit. The salsa tasted like it was from a can. The "Spanish" rice tasted institutional, though the black beans were actually quite good. I don't want to eat there again. This is probably the fifth time I've been there and I've never felt really satisfied. Draught beer selection is decent for Mt. Shasta. ...and what's the deal with ranch sauce on pizza?

Staff was very friendly and the food was reasonable for the price...if not a tad pricey than what I'm used to paying. We ordered a nessies pizza and garlic fries between three of us. There was leftover for us to take home. It could have been easily split among 4 people. It was $25.69 total for an appetizer and a pizza. I took off a star due to the lack of service. They did check up on us once. We never got our water refilled and it took forever waiting to get their attention for the check. I do sympathize a little since two waitresses were covering the floor.

We had dinner at the Wayside Grill in Mt Shasta CA Friday May 23 2014. Both food and service were excellent. We were allow to bring in a bottle of wine for a $5.00 corkage. When passing through or staying in the area it is a good value and a lot of food. Our server Susie was the best. We had made plans to eat at another restaurant until this one was recommended. I am happy we took the suggestion.

Heard they had great steaks I orderd the Ribeye one of two on the menue. The steak its self had a good flavor but I prefur a thicker slice, it was hard to tell that it was prepared rare.. The Garlic fries were disapointing a bit dry. Salad with Balsamic mustard, nice. Service was good enough, watresses first day. Most likley will not return, too many other choices in Mt Shasta.

Dinner lobster bisque, chicken wings and plain Jane pizza. 2 glasses of red wine. Very friendly staff and the food was good to boot.

Went there last night with friends to give it one more try after a year and a half to see if it was any better than the the last 3 times we went. I ordered the creamy garlic lemon pasta with shrimp which came with a dinner salad and a hunk of toasted bread. The only flavor I was able to taste was the chili flakes they used to season it with. No garlic or lemon flavor at all. The salad was dry and old, one of the two cherry tomatoes was spoiled and the blue cheese dressing that came in a thimble size container and must have been in the refrig for a week, it was not creamy , more like hard butter. One of the orders was soup and salad ( it was the same as my dinner salad). The soup was their signature lobster bisque, very spices and a lingering after taste of hot spice. If there was lobster in the soup it must have swam through it. ( if you want good lobster bisque go to the Ringside Steakhouse in Portland Oregon, smooth creamy and plenty of lobster or make it yourself. The chicken salad was just average, and they have the same problem the the dressing as noted above. The only decent meal was the hamburger an American fries. The wait staff was non-attentive, they never came back to fill water glasses, ice tea or take orders for addition cocktails . Needless to say, this experience was no different from our past experiences. We will never be going back. I find it hard to believe anyone would give the Wayside more than a 2 star rating.

My wife and I are 0 for 5 at this establishment. We've tried a variety of dishes here and all are subpar at best. Stale salad, beef dip that had so much fat out you couldn't eat it. The lobster bisque is a joke, must come out of a can. Won't be going back, ever!!!

Good, quality food! But, what really impressed me was the friendliness of the staff. They made us feel like locals and old friends :)

I think four stars is a little high for this place. They recently shortened their menu and got rid of what I thought was some of their better dishes. Generally the food is a bit meh as I am a tough critic on flavor and the effort being put into food these days. The wait staff is very friendly and usually very prompt and attentive. What really chaps my hide is that they charge 4.75 for a pint. Yikes!

Decent and friendly. Not much else here except chain restaurants. Recommendations: Baby back ribs, fish and chips, salmon salad Were all decent, but not exceptional.

I didn't think there was a place I'd get hooked on in the little village of Mt. Shasta, but Mom fiended for this place. I imagine if I die I might spend some of my time haunting this joint. First, the bartender, who was female, poured a mean Jamey n Cran. And I mean Mean like she's ordered it before and has tasted it. It was the perfect proportion of both delights. And it looked like I was having a mixed drink rather than double shots which is helpful on family excursions, am I right? The food was very good too. Maybe my expectations were so low that anything would have been good. Nah, you're right, I'm a bitch and the food was good. Came back first thing the next day only to discover they're closed in the morning. Damn them and their early morning buzzkill.

Seated immediately and had friendly service, but the food tasted average. The ribs melt off the bone, but there wasn't enough flavor (this coming from a Kansas City BBQ native). The garlic mashed potatoes were good, as well as the honey balsamic dressing on my salad. My boyfriend's pepperoni pizza hit the spot but was a little greasy. Not sure I'll be in Mount Shasta again any time soon, but if I were, I'd skip it. We chose this place based on Yelp reviews and were definitely disappointed. Also, no dogs allowed on the patio, FYI (not a reflection on my scoring though).

The Lobster Bisque was amazing! The booth seating is in need of some serious repair and is pretty uncomfortable, but that was my only real complaint.

We can't comment on the food because we never received ours. We stopped by for lunch a little after 1:00 p.m. The dishes at other tables looked pretty good. We ordered, received our water. Had our water refilled. Over 1/2 hour after placing our order a waitress stopped by to inform us that our order got shuffled after a big group of people and that it would be another 10 minutes minimum before we received our food. We said that was unacceptable and we were no longer interested in eating there. Obviously they hadn't even started our order yet. We should have been informed of a big party (not viewable from our table) when we placed our order, or at least after 10 or 15 minutes of waiting, not after over 1/2 hour. We left and picked up Subway sandwiches. Probably not as tasty as what we expected to receive at Wayside, but much quicker and very much cheaper.

Had dinner while visiting Mt. Shasta, the chipotle bacon burger was very good and the fettuccine pesto pasta was about average. Price was reasonable but the service was a little shaky. Not bad overall if your looking for a sports bar like grill.

i tried their wood oven veggie pizza and it had fresh tasty varied veggies, nice crispy crust. They did not have Blue Moon on tap which was fine, water does it for me sometimes :) customer service was sweet but not too prompt...

This place is always busy it seems (in a good way), last night we celebrated some good news with dinner here. Our server recommended I blend my amaretto sour, and she was right it was delicious! The sweet potato fries w/ maple dipping sauce appetizer is our favorite, whatever is in the dip is addictive. They cook their pizzas in a traditional brick oven and it just makes the pizzas taste killer, even the plain old pepperoni ones. The staff is always friendly and speedy. Great atmosphere!

This restaurant is the best! Monday night and they were packed. We didn't have reservations so the hostess told us that she would check to see if she could add a table in the bar area (which is part of the restaurant). They're service was impeccable the food was delicious and the Fall River red beer was very good. I recommend this place th anyone visiting the mccloud/mt shasta area. Make sure to get reservations.

So it was late and we were looking for a great place to eat. We used yelp to help us find a place and the Wayside Grill came up as the winner. It was a liitle hard to find in the dark but we knew that we were at the right place when we saw the packed parking lot. Upon entering the place was crowded and their were hardly and seats. This place is not to diverse hence the looks we got when we first walked in, but then again I don't think Mount Shasta is that diverse of a town. They had a great beer selection and the menu was big, everything from pasta to tacos, to steak. We ordered the Ribeye and a pizza and it was really good. We even had food leftover that we were able to eat the next day. If in Shasta again, I will come back here in a heart beat. I hear on fridays that they have some great music.

After moving from a larger city in Washington to Weed, Ca my boyfriend and I have been on the hunt for a good restaurant that we can go to to treat ourselves every once in a while. Well since you won't find an Applebees, Outback Steakhouse, or Red Robin near by we decided to venture out and try something new. We Yelped restaurants in the area and came to an agreement to try The Wayside Grill in Mt. Shasta. Man were we lucky we stopped here! GREAT SERVICE, AMAZING FOOD, and a very relaxed cozy atmosphere. This is now our date night spot and we have never been disapointed by it. The owners are great people and you can tell that they care about their employees and guests, by bussing tables and checking in with guests to give a lending hand when needed. Also, the bartender is very friendly and was able to make me a Mojito... Something I haven't had since living in this are because most bars don't carry fresh mint. Another nice touch is that the cook comes out and personally talks to each table to see how their food and dining experience went. If it's just to get dinner because you don't want to cook, because your traveling, or just got off the mountain after a long day of skiing/snowboarding stop in at the Wayside Grill!

Terrible service, bad food. Took forever to be seated, they forgot about us, pizza came out 30 minutes before other entree, fishy tacos were disgustingly greasy

Came here for dinner, ordered the fried calamari appetizer, which came out limp and stringy. They have a good selection of beer on tap. Ceasar salad was good, the BBQ burger and garlic fries were awesome. Staff was friendly, probably best place we ate at during our stay at Shasta. A little pricey for what we expected.

DON'T GO THERE UNLESS YOU ARE A LOCAL. RUDE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My boyfriend and I came in a few days before Christmas for dinner and had the worst restaurant experience ever! We actually walked out 45 minutes after our arrival without having dinner. They seated us kindly after a few minute wait and then all of the wait staff avoided our table. After about 15 minutes at the table without anyone coming over we asked a waitress if she would be helping us. She was so rude and inappropriate with me. I asked her about the soup and she flippantly told me she just served the last bowl. Then she begrudgingly took our orders leaving the menus. I felt so uncomfortable we ended up LEAVING! I thought that the rude female server would spit in my food!

Wow... Very surprised at how Good this place was. I had the new York and it was very flavorful... Cooked perfectly too... I can say (after multiple business trips here) this is the best mt Shasta food!!!! I give it a 5 it's amazing.... Now if we were in Portland I would give it a 4, but as far as Shasta goes it doesn't get Any better... The service was very nice and helpful and quick to serve. Just a nice casual place.. This is probably my 5th steak in Shasta all from different places and there is no competition... The seasoning was amazing, juicy and beautiful. This is the ONLY place to eat in Shasta if you want good food!!!

Stopped in for lunch after spending the morning at Mt. Shasta because of the fab Yelp reviews. My son and I shared the BBQ pork pulled sandwich with sweet potato fries. OMG - one of the best duos I have ever had and the portion is huge! We also ordered a spinach salad with shrimp and a kids' pasta plate. They were also delicious! Lunch was so awesome that we came back for dinner! My kids shared a pizza: half pesto and half BBQ chicken, another great plate of food and it was so big we took it home with us back to the bay area and had it for lunch the next day! I ordered the NY steak with garlic fries and the lobster bisque. Steak was juicy and tender, but too dry on all the ends. I ended up cutting the middle out and just ate that. The garlic fries were okay, nothing special. The lobster bisque was a little spicy, but amazing! My husband ordered the BBQ plate, one of the special of the evening: half slab of ribs and chicken with wild rice and steamed veggies. His plate was fantastic! The meat was tender, juicy, falling of the bone and ohhh so tastey! We had the same dessert twice (once for lunch and once for dinner), because it's that darn good! The dark chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream is not one of those usual kind you see at lots of other restaurants. If you love chocolate, please order this! It is super moist, super rich (without overdoing it) and a super chocolatey mound of yumminess! Even though my steak and garlic fries were just okay, everything else we ate at both meals was outstanding, as was the service, so I can't not give 5 happy stars! Thank you for our amazing meals! :)

This place was yummi! Who would have thought that a place in a little town like this would get so busy? My dad and I are visiting the area and had a rather gloomy day so this was a great end to a freezing day :) Awesome fun live country music as you would expect it in an area like this that just makes you smile, a delicious steak that will fill your stomach for days and very great and friendly service. Even the prices were quite fiting - not cheap and not expensive but quite fair. If you are in the area I can only recommend coming here. :) Make sure to sit in the bar area, as it is the best seat in the house. The bar tender (I believe Veronica is her name) is very nice and you'll have the most fun sitting there :) PS: We came here the next night as well and enjoyed their delicious Italian dishes. Of course nothing can beat a great steak, but they were still yummi as well!

Basic decent food. Pizzas fine. Fish tacos hardly had any fish. Nothing special, cheerful staff. Hard to find great food in Mt. Shasta.

It was ok. I wouldn't recommend the salmon salad. The salmon is clearly not as fresh as it should be. We ate on the back deck which had an amazing view of the mountains but there were a ton of flys. The lobster bisque is good and if I go back (which I may or may not) I will definitely get it again. They have a good selection of beers and the pulled pork sandwich that someone at another table had looked really good.

This had the makings of a train wreck. The kind of train wreck that involves a train hitting a school bus. And the train's load is a bunch of tanker cars containing liquid ammonia, which rupture and necessitate the evacuation of the whole town. And the Bush Administration's former FEMA guy "Brownie" takes charge of the disaster relief effort. THAT kind of train wreck. Six of us -- work colleagues plus a pair of kids -- drop in on a Sunday night to talk a little bidness and break bread. Waiter Dude promptly tells us that there's no bread to break, and little of anything else to eat. Seems that they've had a busy, busy Sunday (not the norm), and they're out of virtually everything on the menu. So we ask what they've got, and Waiter Dude tells us the're down to one order of fish and chips, one burger, and rib-eye steaks. Waiter Dude says that they have stacks of rib-eyes. Rib-eyes-o-plenty. So that's what we order. Ten minutes later Waiter Dude comes out and tells us that they actually had only one rib-eye left, so Chef Dude threw on the one rib-eye and three flank steaks, and that's what we're getting. Are we cool with that? By now you must be saying right out loud: "WTF? Four stars?" Well, first of all, we'd been fairly warned, and we decided to stay. And secondly, Waiter Dude and Chef Dude did back flips to take care of us with what they had. And thirdly, what ended up on the table was delicious -- well-prepared steaks (flank steaks can be lean and tough, and these were near perfect), garlic fries, fresh salad, and good draft microbrews. The dessert was tasty, too, if a bit on the "way too much" end of the spectrum, but I think that was intended to satisfy the kids. And finally, Waiter Dude knocked 25% off of our tab for putting up with the glitches. When a restaurant can take an almost certain train wreck and turn it into a better-than-average experience, it's worth four stars and a return visit. If you're at Mt. Shasta Board and Ski Park for the day, check them out on the way home. They're located just off the intersection of I-5 and Hwy 89.

We heard about this place from a local and wow, what a great find. Just the right portions and the staff was pleasant and responsive. We had Terry's famous lobster bisque and Thai steak fettuccini in peanut sauce. They were outstanding. We're not sure what the Berkley guy is talking about???

If the aliens came down from refueling their ships from Mt. Shasta for a minute to the Wayside grill, they would agree that their food is out of this world! Every bite is delicious from start to finish and the service is very friendly. One of the waiters even invited us to come back later that night to listen to him DJ. It was a little empty, but with more advertising I'm sure there would have been more people there. Great place, great food. Will definitely become regulars here! :)

We rolled into town, having driven three or four hours from San Francisco, just as the sun was going down. We saw this place right off the highway and it looked open, checked the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. The kitchen had just closed, but the owner took pity on us and agreed to keep the kitchen open to feed us. We had a couple of wheat beers and chose a pizza from the wood brick oven. The cook came out of the kitchen looking distressed and told us that he'd misjudged the oven heat and overcooked our pizza. We told him to bring it anyway because we were starving. We couldn't taste the difference...it may have been a little crispier than usual, but I like it that way. The flavor was unexpectedly good. The owner gave us the pizza for free. Like every place in Mt. Shasta, it's for the locals. We finished our beers at the bar so the staff could close up and spoke to some of them. Always interesting to hear what brings someone out to the boonies. Worth stopping by if you're looking for unpretentious pub food. There's a stage in the bar, so on weekend nights there's likely to be local bands playing there. I was getting the "local blues band" vibe, so I probably wouldn't want to be there if the music was playing, but you might.

Came for lunch on the way to Mt. Shasta and was a bit disappointed that the woodfire pizzas, pastas, etc. were not available until after 4. We tried the baja fish tacos which were pretty tasty and the soup, salad, bread combo. The bowl of soup is huge and was a bit overwhelming. Overall it was okay but nothing to write home about.

I'd give this palace a 3.5 stars. the food is good, the service was mediocre. we ordered the calamari and lobster bisque to start. calamari was crispy without the soggy, oily taste. soup was tasty. the Cesar Salad was fresh and had good dressing. my chicken carbonara had a thick creamy sauce which i found to be slightly too creamy. had better in my town. overall, the food was good, the ambiance is relaxing. however, our waitress was not attentive, her main focus was take our orders, bring the food and leave the bill. not once did she return to check on us and the forced smile on her face told me either she didn't want to be there or she just didn't seem to care enough about our table. would i return if in the area? yes, i would give it another try.

I've warmed to the Wayside since my first visit, but I'm staying at three stars. It hasn't been as noisy but the service is still shaky. Not unfriendly in the least, but a lot of small mistakes. Mixing up tables, spilling a little of your drink while serving, bringing out everyone's order except for one person's in a party of six. And while the food is tasty, it's sort of uneven. The pulled pork sandwich, for instance: The pork is good, but the bread is not very good. Or the spicy chicken tacos: Everything great except for the chicken, which was just cubes of meat covered in a sauce that, if it didn't come from a bottle, needs work. Nothing wrong with that, except I can make it at home instead of paying twelve bucks (more for guac and sour cream). I don't want to dissuade people from eating here in general. The drinks are cold and the food is tasty, especially the garlic fries. I'm a sucker for garlic. Just be prepared for an experience that is pretty much what you expect from a local bar and grill. Don't go looking for a hidden gem, and you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I stop for a night in Mt Shasta, as it is a good day drive from Rancho Cucamonga. Hit the Wayside this time for our first visit. Really enjoyed it. The place was hopping for a Thursday night. The service was excellent, food was very good, and the lobster bisque was way beyond expectations. Terry, the owner was visiting with all his customers, including us, and treated us like locals. He gave me the best seat in the house, the first booth, and I had a great view of Mt Shasta. The Wayside will be our new first choice. ( I never give 5 stars, nothing is perfect,4 from me is very, very good indeed)!

Exceptional food. Fish and chips were crispy and hot. The salads were cool and the greens fresh. The veggie pizza was tasty without too much tomato sauce. The service was good. Ambiance was a little funky but the place was clean and well lighted. It has to be the best place around. It was recommended by a local.

The Wayside is under new ownership again. Quite a few changes have been made, including a whole new menu, the addition of a pizza oven, and cozy booths. I think they're still working out the kinks so expect a little bit of a wait for your food. (Once waited 1hr 15min for pasta). Full bar, beer on tap and sweet potatoes fries are a plus. Getting our appetizer after our salad and then waiting a long time for the entrees was a bummer.

They got their Guinness on! UPDATE: Taking back a star because after repeatedly requesting a better pour on their Guinness, the owner refuses to adjust to the proper nitrogen mix. This makes for a bad Guinness pour. And now it is clear it will not be getting better. Maybe they'll read this and see that it DOES matter. This is still a favorite place. Just wish they would get their Guinness back on!

Visiting Mt. Shasta for our Anniversary and found his place here on Yelp. Was a great find! Fantastic staff, friendly and helpful with any request or question we had. Simply the best place we ate during our stay in Mt. Shasta. My girlfriend and I asked a local for a restaurant recommendation and Wayside Grill was it. The food was deliscious and the portions were huge. The pizza made from the wood fire oven was great.

We yelped Wayside and it got reasonable reviews so we gave it a shot. Called at 5:45 for 6:30 reservations and was told I could make a res, but it might still be a 15 minute wait. We arrived at 6:15 and were told to "make ourselves comfortable" in the bar area until our table was ready. Cozy bar area with tables and chairs and a fireplace! Ordered a Glenfiddich 15 year for the man, a Patron Anejo for me, Shirley Temple for her worship (my daughter) and by the time I got back to our little bar table, we were ready to be seated. EVERYONE HERE IS SO PLEASANT!!! Nice bartender, nice waitstaff, nice nice nice! The menu is comprehensive. Steaks, wood fired pizzas, pastas, fish n chips, burgers, tex mex. Wine list is wee, but good fundamentals. Both of us wanted Tex Mex, so we opted for the Estancia Pinot Grigio. Puppy ordered the only appetizer: sweet potato fries. She ordered a small portion just for her, which was so big we all ended up digging in. They are perfection! Crispy and well-salted. Yay fried parsley!!! I am so happy to see this showing up on more and more plates. Crispy and refreshing. Honey-mustard (?) sauce was almost superfluous, so flavorful were these fries. Yay Verily! I had the Street Tacos with chicken adobo filling. They were really good! The adobo flavor stood out and they were wonderful on their own, but were also accompanied by guacamole, sour cream, salsa and a dish of black beans. Andrew had the Steak Tampico, which was not shy on heat. So tasty and warm and wonderfully spicy. The steak was tender and served fajita style with sauteed peppers and onions. This dish was also accompanied by salsa, guacamole, sour cream and black beans but also rice which was yummy, if a bit overcooked. Puppy had the cheese ravioli. The sauce was a little greasy but otherwise garlicky and bold. Again with the fried parsley, once again used to great effect. The predictable breadstick was a throwaway. Maybe arugula tossed in vinagriette for some acididty wouldv'e been of more use? Anyway, please go here. We will!

Just went to this restaurant with a group of 8 last weekend. We sat on the beautiful lawn for an hour having cocktails and enjoying the evening. We ordered and ate outside, which is only allowed if you pick up your food from inside. Worth it. We got a huge mix of their bar food. The sushi was delicious as were the chicken skewers, and the sweet potato fries. We moved inside and ate dinner at the bar. Most of my group ate burgers. They were so good. I ordered a salad to share and it was great as well. The burgers come on what I assume to be homemade buns. Not the less than impressive store bought ones you normally see. You can tell the wait and kitchen staff are enjoying their time at work. Everyone has a smile and is very friendly! I would recommend this to anyone and look forward to eating here again soon.

Wednesday night, 4/4/2011, and they say they weren't expecting such a crowd. They're swamped. We've waited an hour for our food. The music is about to start way too loud. What's up? The reviews we read were great. OK, the food came finally. My wife had the chicken enchilada, I had chicken tacos. Great food! Lousy service.

Brick oven pizza was good. Several unique options. Very diverse menu. Pizza, pasta, Mexican entrees, steaks, ribs, sandwiches. Garlic fries were ok, need to be cooked more. Bleu cheese salad dressing was chunky home made. Service was outstanding! Unfortunately no live music tonight. :( Will try it again next time I stay in Mt Shasta.

My family (parents and brother) and I came here and had lunch the first time (I suggest a burger with the sweet potatoe fries...Delicious!) and the second time was for dinner (ribeye was tender and cooked perfectly for my taste!) the service was much better the second time and they have like 10 beers on draft! new owners=new flavors=wonderful experience! I recommend!

This place continues to evolve. Currently they're add some excellent mexican entrees, while keeping the barbecue and brick oven pizza. Place was packed with the apre-ski crowd. Today I tried the new spicy chile verde pork--outstanding flavor. the lunch menu is much smaller than the dinner menu, so we tried the fish and chips. Three nice large pieces of real cod, with choice of 3 kinds of fries. Picked the garlic fries and lots of garlic --not like the garlic salt treated reg fries some sell. Very very good. Watched a great march madness run-up hoops shootout (easy to see and sound was just right). I asked about the new Mexican items and found out that there's more of this coming. Watch the specials board.

Many times I've eaten beer battered fish. I have never had the pleasure of being swooned by beer battered fish, until this restaurant. The hotel people in Shasta, told us we could receive a restaurant discount if we showed proof of our hotel stay. Can you imagine finding the restaurant you chose for a deal, becoming the best overall dining experience ever? It really happened. The atmosphere is casual, non pretentious, friendly local people getting together to have a good time. A man played light guitar (no vocals) while some restaurant patrons smiled and waved in recognition towards his music and face. A fully dressed police officer sat down to eat at a table and during the night, said hello to some recognizable faces at other tables. But to heck with a picture perfect setting for all that: this 5 star rating is about the food (Food should always be at least 75% the reason for any restaurant opinion. At least!) There were layers, FREAKING LAYERS of textures and tastes experienced as I took a first bite of the beer battered fish. What the hell?!! This was the most gourmet quality pub food I have ever had in my life. I didn't even know it was possible! The fried batter was a perfect puffy crisp, not a single goop of uncooked batter, could not find a section the batter was burnt or over fried. The fish was hearty, warm and meaty as a bite of chicken. It was the highest quality fish I've ever had prepared that way. The garlic sweet potato fries went great! Friend said his steak was one of the best he had ever had. I could not believe we got a discount on top of it all! I highly recommended the food at this place. The food is amazing. Beer battered fish sticks made me swoon! I would absolutely tell Jacques Pepin to come here just for the fish sticks. Absolutely dead serious.

Really... I ordered the 4 piece fried chicken meal and they give me 2 pieces that were smaller than a appetizer chicken wing. My waitress herd me complaining.. She didn't care.. Guess ill cross this one off my list when I'm in town.

Great friendly place to eat and have a drink. Real napkins and little parsley sprinkles on the plate of pasta I had were classy. Was an interesting chicken Alfredo with green chilies concoction that came with bread and was excellent. Nice bartender, great micro-brew (had Fall River Porter, outstanding!), fair price. Locals seemed happy and accepting us outsiders.

We have been here 4-5 times, on weeknights, early, late, winter, summer. While I found many reviews from urbanites condescending when reviewing restaurants in smaller towns (surprised to find good food ....), I have to say I've had plenty of bland and bad food in Sac, SF and other metropolises. So I say I am not surprised to find good food here, at the Dunsmuir Brewery Works, or the Goat in Mt Shasta. As far as the Wayside goes, we have had great service, and disinterested service, great food and mediocre. I will return, but not with the confidence that the food or service will be consistent. With this establishment I'd say most of the reviews are spot on, the good and the bad. I think it just depends on the day.

I wasn't really expecting much from a small town restaurant in Mt. Shasta, but this place exceeded my expectations. 1) Huge portions! After a long day of driving and walking around the MacArthur-Burney Falls then taking pictures of Mt. Shashta it was a sight to see how much food they gave us at a reasonable price. 2) The staff is friendly and welcoming. They kept coming to check up on us and filling our drinks. 3) The daily special: The lobster and shrimp Fettucine Alfredo was excellent! The lobster and shrimp was perfectly cooked - not overcooked at all! Plenty of food and garlicy/cheesy/buttery goodness. Garlic bread was okay. 4) The pulled pork sandwich with garlic fries. The bread on the pulled pork was good, and the pulled pork was piled high. I thought the pork tasted a day old or was microwaved to be warmed up since it had a leftover pulled pork taste. But that's understandable since I doubt they go through a whole pork shoulder everyday. The garlic fries were good, really strong on the garlic. Bring a breath mint. 5) The lobster bisque was pretty good. Savory with a kick and not too creamy. I think they might be making bisque the classic way by using rice to thicken the soup and the broth smells great-- you can smell the lobster in there (perhaps they're using the shells...). Anyways, its pretty darn good and not too salty either. All in all, it was a welcome and pleasant surprise for dinner to be fed large portions of pretty good food with great service.

This place has average food that could be improved if only the local resources were used. I've had burgers there that had what seemed like Wonder Bread buns, when our local Oven Bakery buns could have been used that would raise the whole level of food quality a few notches. I've ordered enchiladas that weren't microwaved quite right - scalding on the outside, and cold in the middle. I also ordered chili. Ha! I got a very wide and shallow bowl with a thin liquid - it seemed to be enchhilada sauce with a couple beans in it. I asked for bread so I could at least get some calories and was brought two tiny pieces of stale over toasted garlic bread, and charged extra. Sometimes it's better than others. I like the atmosphere, and the wait staff have always been fine. If they would just get their act together, they could out compete the other local restaurants.

Best place in town! Seemed like everyone in the whole town comes here, not one car at any of the other restaurants and everyone here!

Beer-great Shrimp app. - cocktail sauce needed more horseradish too Ketchupy. Salad- bagged not fresh Lobster bisque- good flavor but watery Rib eye steak- delicious Service - great Atmosphere - great. Live music Suggestion... Save plastic and use ceramic containers for salad dressing. Use real butter instead of toxic margarine.

Love Way Side Grill. On the days I am OFF, not running my own restaurant, WE come here for dinner. Their Veggie burger is amazing. Unfortunately they were out of it on Wednesday and that made me really sad, but that didn't stop me from trying new items. All of their food is really good. Owners, Terry and Denise are super nice. Highly recommended coming here for dinner and drinks.

I'm a big fan of asking the locals where they like to eat when I'm visiting unfamiliar parts. 3 out of 4 mentioned Wayside when asked. The nice gal that gave me a pedicure summed it up best, "Good food at a reasonable price". Walking in, we were greeted by a perky hostess who wound up also being our waitress. A reasonable 10 minute wait was spent in their comfy bar area equipped with a couple of large screen televisions. It immediately became apparent that this was a very friendly place where many people in the crowd were regulars and the staff treated them like family. Nice! The BF got a rib-eye special that came with a juicy med-rare hunk o' beef, mashed garlic taters and beautiful asparagus. My pizza had a crispy, thin hand-tossed crust and was fired in their specialty pizza oven, but I found it to be a little bland overall. Not bad, just not great. If we would have had more time here, this would have topped my list of places to try again. With the quality of the steak and the fun atmosphere, I definitely would have liked to taste other menu options.

This place was hopping on a Saturday night. We had a special where for $30, you get two 12-inch, wood fired pizzas and two cups of their spicy lobster bisque. The bisque was delicious. Only short of 5 stars because I would have liked actual chunks of lobster, but regardless, the flavor was awesome and were I to visit again, I'd get a whole bowl. The wood-fired pizzas were excellent. I had the Italian and my daughter had plain jane cheese. With the soup, we really only needed half a pizza each, so now we have breakfast. There was live music in the bar and it was quite good. It did make it hard to have conversation though. Service was spot on. My daughter voted that on our drive to Chico for a family wedding in two weeks, we stop here for a meal.

Closed! A car full of hungry kids, a message on the phone that says they are open when in fact, they were closed at 7pm on a Tuesday night. Upsetting, but found that Say Cheese Pizza hit the spot instead. Excellent pizza, beer and multiple TV screens for all the sports you could want. Say Cheese!

The food was great and the service was excellent. All workers were smiling and friendly. We had Sweet Potato Fries, Garlic Pest Shrimp pasta, Chicken Alfredo, Meat Lasagna and Fried Chicken. One of the better restaurants in town.

This was adequate, at best. After eating at Lily's, dinner here was just dinner -- food to fill a stomach. Staff were great, but not sufficiently so to compensate for the lackluster dinner.

Wayside is a little hidden gem in Mt. Shasta. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but it is all white tablecloths on the inside. We were surprised to hear them ask if we had a reservation! They do take walk ins, but most people make reservations, so be prepared to wait if you don't get in before 5pm. This is our favorite place to eat when stopping in Mt. Shasta. We travel through every year when traveling to the Northwest. We LOVE their wood fired pizzas! The Artichoke Pesto is my personal fave.

The bartender rocks, our mixed drink was great! The food was average (but not bad). However, someone needs to take the harmonica away from the owner! Friday night was a great jazz band, young guys (Taffero?) and they were doing a great job. A young man came up a few times and sang, very pleasant experience. But...the owner came up and added his harmonica licks, ugh! cringe! someone cover my ears, he took a pleasant experience and made it nearly intolerable. Like fingernails scratching on a chalkboard. If he had been playing the whole time we would have left without finishing our meal. Altogether, it was a pleasant experience, great band (sans the harp) and great mixed drinks.

We went to Shasta for a weekend of R&R and checked out The Wayside Grill on a friday night. I had a salmon salad and my hubby had a vegetarian pizza. Both were excellent. The salmon was wild caught, tasty, and generous in portion. They had great beers on tap, Racer 5 IPA is a personal favorite! The waitstaff was really friendly and everything came out in a really timely manner. The music that night was incredible. The Ted Taforo Trio was there and it was amazing jazz. The place was packed and everyone had a great time. We stayed until closing and will definitely make the Wayside Grill a permanent stop when we are in town!

Wonderful food! Great Waitstaff and owner. I had the fish and chips. Not too greasy good amount of fish and the garlic fries which were the best I have had. The place was packed and loud but the food and atmosphere outwieghed that. Jimmy Limo the live music was great!

This place would be great anywhere (in my neighborhood, for instance) but it's REALLY a find in the I-5 deadzone. Excellent service, a great beer selection and food that delivers just what was promised. My husband had the lobster bisque (slightly salty, but good) and the spinach salad with shrimp (super fresh veg, nice tender shrimp). I had the prime rib philly cheesesteak with garlic fries -nicely done, great flavors, and everything fresh and hot.

I have enjoyed this restaurant as a local and regular customer for awhile now but I was most recently impressed with the restaurant's capabilities as a venue for a wedding ceremony and reception venue. The food was delicious, the staff was very helpful in helping us out when it came to a sudden change in weather. Our completely-set-up outside dining was soaked in a matter of minutes but we moved the tables and 150 people inside in a very short time. Great place for an event. Good food for any occasion, and the outdoor deck and lawn are definitely something to enjoy. This is only one of two restaurants I would refer friends to.
